Hot chocolate, or hot cocoa (as we say in my house) is an absolute luxury when it’s made the right way. It can be quite nutritious for you too when you make it with real, wholesome ingredients. It also happens to be a few days shy of Valentine’s Day, so a chocolate recipe seems fitting. Get your kids involved by following along with the video tutorial below.
My kids look forward to having a piping hot mug of hot cocoa after playing coming inside from being outside in the snow or to help warm them up while sitting around our fire in the backyard. Me, I don’t care where I am or what I’m doing, give me a good quality hot cocoa and I’ll savour every last drop, especially when there’s a side of gluten-free chocolate chip cookies tagging along- cozy vibes…I’m here for it.
I’ve become a hot cocoa making machine lately, testing our various recipes, variations on each recipe and of course, getting the perfect whipped cream on top. I like to use a good quality coconut whipping cream and simply chill it overnight in the fridge, whipping it on medium high for 2 minutes with a splash of maple syrup and vanilla extract. The coconut whipping cream I like can be found here.
This hot cocoa recipe is dairy-free, incredibly decadent and creamy and of course, it’s pretty darn clean in terms of ingredients. I feel good giving this to my kids and I’m sure you will too.
